Excellent recent performances from Junior Squash Mavericks

The last two weekends have seen the East Glos Junior Squash Mavericks on the road again.
On 17th and 18th May, Daniel Stevenson played in the Lincoln Silver event. As #2 seed, he reached the Bu13 final, narrowly losing out to #1 seed Joseph Underwood in four games. One of the England Squash referees contacted me to say how well Daniel conducted himself on court, demonstrating outstanding sportsmanship throughout the event.
On the same weekend, six of our other Mavericks competed in the Leamington Spa Copper event. Their performances were excellent, with an East Glos 1, 2, 3 finish in the Bu15 category. Thank you to all the parents who came along and supported the juniors, enabling them to compete at their very best. Also, thanks to Lily Stanton once more, who helped coach the players during the event.

Last Saturday saw a Battle of the Border event between the North and South of England.
Daniel Stevenson was representing the South, who won overall based on a game and points total for the whole team. Congratulations to Daniel on his efforts and for working his way into the England Junior Development Programme.
A glimpse into the future on bank holiday Monday?
In a personal achievement for me, a squad of players came together for a Mavericks training session that included our entry-level and higher-level players training alongside our professional players.
It was great to have 2025 Bu15 English junior champion, Matthew Leung, world #457 Tayne Turnock, and world #42 Nathan Lake share the court with our youngsters for two hours.
To see all the players of such a wide variety in ability support each other’s learning, with high intensity and focus intertwined with the fun and banterful culture we have created here within the Mavericks, was terrific to witness.
Supported by our junior coaching team, which includes me, Lily Stanton, Tom Ford, and Tayne Turnock, this has been something I’ve been working hard to build, and I continue to do so with every passing season.
