Success for East Glos players in Gloucestershire Senior County Closed

Congratulations to all those who competed in the Gloucestershire Senior County Closed last weekend, and thank you to East Glos for hosting. Many East Glos members took part, including the up-and-coming Junior Mavericks testing themselves against the best in the county.
Some great battles took place over the weekend. All players made their initial seedings, apart from one, with Tony Briscombe causing the upset of the day to beat Toby Nock 3-0 to make it into the last 16.

There were also some brutal matches on display in the O35s competition, seeing plenty of 3-2s to see the day off, with Mark Toseland and Craig Webb making their way into the final on Sunday.
The semi-finals of the main and plate draws saw varying results, with one semi-final match between Joe Tyler and Toby Nock going to 10-10 in the fifth game. Toby came out on top to make his way into the plate final against East Glos F team captain, Lewis Stanley.
Tayne Turnock stood firm in his semi-final match against Harry Bloomfield to take a closely fought 3-0, cementing his place into the final against Ryan Gwidzima.
The first final up saw Toby beating Lewis Stanley 3-1. This was a close battle until the fourth, where the legs of Lewis struggled to keep up with the weekend load, especially after taking part in the intermediate training session on the Friday evening too.
Mark Toseland played a strong match against fellow East Glos player Craig Webb, ensuring the pace was kept high and that targets were hit well. This saw Mark take the O35s title for the first time.
Finally, Tayne & Ryan put on a master class of high-quality performance squash. Tayne recovered from two match balls down in the fourth, to come out blistering in the fifth game and take the match 3-2, 11-7 in the fifth. Tayne also writes his name into history on the GSA County closed championship cup, with names going as far back as 1939.
